Promoting ethical research standards: REMB VI hosts an advocacy and orientation initiative.

The Regional Ethics Monitoring Board (REMB) VI, through the Committee on Information Dissemination, Training, and Advocacy (CIDTA), conducted an advocacy campaign and orientation activity on February 23 via Zoom Video Conferencing.

A total of 71 participants, comprised of researchers, research advisers, and potential research ethics committee (REC) members of Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) and STI-West Negros University (STI-WNU), attended the activity.

Resource persons in the activity were Prof. Lerma L. Paris, Chair of REMB VI CIDTA, and Ms. Seth N. Barce, staff of REMB VI. They discussed the mandates and programs of the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) and REMB VI, the overview of the functions and composition of REC, and the guidelines in

crafting the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the REC, among others.

The conduct of advocacy campaigns and orientation activities is in accordance with one of the mandates of REMB VI, which is to provide support and assistance to institutions in terms of increasing awareness and appreciation of research ethics as well as capacitating REC members to ensure and maintain ethical standards in the conduct of research involving human participants in the region.
