Mushroom production facility launched in Batad, Iloilo

The Department of Science and Technology VI (DOST VI) and the local government of Batad launched an oyster mushroom production facility on February 22, 2023.

As part of the Economic Development/Livelihood Opportunities component of DOST’s Community Empowerment thru S&T (CEST) Program, the establishment of the facility is aimed to empower the livelihood of women in the community. Its implementation builds on the previously implemented gender and development (GAD) initiatives in the community, particularly on the provision of assistance to the survivors of Violence Against Women (VAW) in the municipality.

The ceremony held at Brgy. Quiazan Lopez, Batad, Iloilo was graced by Hon. Elvira P. Alarcon, Mayor of Batad, Engr. Sheila L. Oberio, DOST Iloilo Provincial S&T Director (PSTD), and Ms. Mary Beth D. Grecia, DOST Iloilo Asst. PSTD. Other project partners were also in attendance including PLT Ma. Rosel Buenvenida, Chief of Police of Batad Municipal Police Station and Ms. Pilar Banico, President of Bangon Babaye organization. (NGPorcal/Iloilo PSTO, NABFactuar/KMO)
