Sipalay City Barangay Nutrition Scholars train on food safety
Sipalay City, Negros Occidental – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Negros Occidental Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO), in collaboration with the Sipalay City Mayor’s Office led by Hon. Maria Gina M. Lizares, the City Health Office (CHO) headed by Dr. Florencio O. Juplo II and the City Nutrition Office (CNO) led by Ms. Judyliza L. Cepe, conducted the Food Safety 101 training of 30 Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) from all 17 barangays of Sipalay City on February 28, 2024.
Ms. Ellin Grace V. Andana, Science Research Specialist I of Negros Occidental PSTO, facilitated the training, which equipped the BNS participants with necessary knowledge on safe food handling practices to responsibly manage Sipalay City’s Mobile Kitchen and CNO Nutripan Bakery.
The mobile kitchen, manned by BNS personnel, goes around the city to conduct feeding programs and raise health awareness in support of the city’s program on health and nutrition.
Prior to the training, Ms. Andana conducted a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Gap Assessment for the CNO Nutripan Bakery in preparation for the potential adoption of DOST-Food and Nutrition Research Institute’s (FNRI) Enhanced Nutribun (E-Nutribun) technology.
