LOOK: The activity was conducted by the DOST Capiz Provincial S&T Office (PSTO) in collaboration with Panit-an Mayor, Hon. Kit Dequiña-Belo.
The community selected as a beneficiary of DOST’s Community Empowerment thru S&T (CEST) Program and was provided with PORTASOLS due to prevalent traditional drying practices such as sun-drying along roads and highways, faces risks including crop contamination, pest infestation, and exposure to diseases.
PORTASOLS are composed of aluminum thermal trays stacked in tiers, ranging from five to ten layers high. The technology prevents pests and promotes proper ventilation, enhancing the drying process for various produce like rice, corn, mongo, and fish. The provision of the technology addresses current post-harvest challenges, offering streamlined solution for drying operations in the community.
