Meet an ongoing DOST scholar from the University of Antique
DOST Scholar: Catalyst for Science introduces Irigan Mark S. Necor, a 3rd Year BS Mechanical Engineering student from the University of Antique (UA)-Main Campus. He is a 2023 JLSS RA 7687 DOST-Science Education Institute (SEI) Scholar.
Mark graduated high school as a scholar from Sisters of Mary School in Cebu City despite facing financial hardships and being a self-supporting student. He was a consistent honor student at Sisters of Mary School. To support his college education, he works as a caretaker during the weekends at the Sibalom Evangelical Church.
Fortunately, his financial burdens eased when he qualified for the 2023 DOST’s JLSS Scholarship.
This DOST scholar exhibits strong leadership qualities as he was elected as the President of the League of DOST Scholars in the university. In this role, he initiated the recognition process of the organization by UA’s Students Assistance Services (SAS) and led the planning of activities to foster camaraderie among DOST scholars and promote a culture of science and technology in Antique province.
Mark is a certified math wizard, Teakwondo medalist, graphic designer and a chess top player in UA. With his life motto, “Being good enough, isn’t good enough”, Mark continuously strives for excellence in everything he does like a true DOST scholar should. (FAFaustino/Antique PSTO, NABFactuar/KMO)
