Street food vendors in Buenavista, Guimaras attended a food safety orientation facilitated by Guimaras State University (GSU)-Salvador Campus and conducted by the Department of Science and Technology VI (DOST VI).
The orientation intended to increase awareness in adapting to food safety protocols in the new normal, understand the risks in food preparation, and determine potential hazards, particularly in street foods.
DOST-accredited food safety trainer and DOST Guimaras Provincial S&T Director, Mr. Allen Daryl F. Asuelo, conducted the training. Mr. Asuelo discussed the basic concept and importance of food safety, types of contaminants in food, and the five keys to safer food.
The participants also joined hands-on exercises that taught them proper handwashing techniques, proper storage, and labeling of ingredients and other materials.
