The local government unit (LGU) representatives in Western Visayas were granted user accounts for the Department of Science and Technology VI’s (DOST VI) Strategic Incident Georeferencing for Nationwide Alertness or Project SIGNAL, an online platform for accurate and real-time reporting and monitoring of emergencies and disaster-related events.
For full utilization of the system, DOST VI officially granted LGUs system user accounts during the series of project launching activities conducted in each province in the region. Aside from this, LGU representatives were also oriented and trained on the use of the incident reporting system.
As of this writing, the system has recorded more than 3,000 incidents within Western Visayas. Among the top incidents reported include medical emergencies, vehicular accidents, trauma incidents, flood, and Obstetrics-related emergencies.
Additionally, 83% of provincial LGUs and 92% of city/municipal LGUs in the region are active in using the system. There are a total of 891 trained incident reporters from the Philippine National Police (PNP), provincial and municipal local government units (LGUs), the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), DOST VI, and other identified agencies.
