The Department of Science and Technology VI’s (DOST VI) Disaster Risk Reduction Management Unit (DRRMU) in collaboration with the Guimaras Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) launched the Strategic Incident Georeferencing for Nationwide Alertness or Project SIGNAL in Guimaras province.

Discussed during the orientation where the project’s overview and updates wherein the following objectives were discussed: 1) Develop an online unified communication platform for reporting critical incidents and disastrous events for proper response and monitoring; 2) Create a dependable and robust database of disaster and other events that may be used for report submission as well as strategic planning and analysis; and 3) Complement the data generated by automated hydromet stations with visual reports from personnel at the ground-level.

The launching was attended by staff from the Guimaras Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management (PDRRM), and representatives from the local government throughout the province.

Addtionally, Emergency Operation Center (EOC) web portal user accounts was granted to the provincial LGU and one for each of the five municipal LGUs of Guimaras. These user accounts will be used to report, monitor, and manage incidents on the Project SIGNAL web portal.

DOST VI through its DRRMU and PSTOs conducts a series of project launchings all over the region to engage more participation and linkages with its stakeholders.
