The Department of Science and Technology Region VI – Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory (DOST VI – RSTL) conducted a technical webinar on Measurement Uncertainty in Chemical and Microbiological Testing Laboratory as one of its continuing activities on providing technical assistance to strengthen other laboratories within the region.

It is the primary aim of the technical webinar to increase participants’ knowledge and understanding in the importance of conducting a measurement uncertainty since it is critical to risk assessment and decision making. Organizations make decisions every day based on reports containing quantitative measurement data. If measurement results are not accurate, then decision risks increase. Selecting the wrong suppliers, could result in poor product quality.

In attendance were 36 participants from partner laboratories, Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), University of Antique – Integrated Research and Development Laboratory (UA-IRDL), ACA Water Analysis and Laboratory Services, Inc. (ACA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region VI – Regional Fisheries Laboratory (BFAR VI-RFL), Environment Management Bureau Region VI (EMBR6), Aklan Environment and Natural Resources Office (AKENRO) and University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV), and from OneLab Network members including the Negros Prawn Producers Cooperative (NPPC), Inc.

Serving as a resource speaker were Mr. Joeben V. Gubatanga, RMT, SRS II/Technical Manager of the DOST VI-RSTL Microbiological Testing Laboratory, and Mr. Roxzien Shaye G. Sesbreño, RCh, SRS I/Technical Manager of the DOST VI- RSTL – Chemical Testing Laboratory.

At the end of the training, participants were given a workshop to evaluate their understanding and learnings acquired during the training. (DOST VI-RSTL/DOST VI-KMU)
