Tourism enterprises participate in DOST’s nationwide Halal tourism webinar
The Department of Science and Technology Region VI (DOST VI) collaborated with the DOST Regional Offices in Regions IV-A, V, IX, X, XII, and Caraga to organize the Philippine Halal Tourism Webinar: Opportunities for Tourism Enterprises in Achieving Muslim Clientele Satisfaction through Halal Assurance System.
In attendance were 441 participants hailing from various agencies alongside DOST including the Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Agriculture (DA), Philippine Air Force, Local Government Units (LGUs), Department of Environment and Natural Resources, several tourism establishments, and the academe. For Western Visayas, there were a total of 55 participants.
Among the goals of the webinar is to better understand and appreciate Halal Tourism’s impact on helping the national economy grow as well as help tourism Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) become more capable of developing a systematic approach to safeguarding and preserving the Halal integrity of products via the Halal Assurance System.
Three resource speakers shared their knowledge at the webinar, namely Dr. Jane B. Tranquilan, Associate Professor at the Mindanao State University, Marawi City, and certified International Halal lead auditor/trainer/consultant in Malaysian Halal Consultancy and training agency, Marinella Bianca I. Nicolas, Science Research Specialist I at the DOST – Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI), and Gyle D. Tampil, Science Research Specialist I also from DOST-ITDI.
