DOLE taps DOST to impart food safety to selected sectors in Capiz

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the province of Capiz reached out to the Department of Science and Technology Region VI (DOST VI) to hold an orientation on basic food safety.

The said event is part of DOLE Capiz’s “2-day Writeshop cum Livelihood Enhancement training and Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Orientation”, which took place at Islands Hotel, Lawa-an, Roxas City, Capiz.

Present at the orientation were various Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and associations identified by DOLE mostly belonging to the food sector and agricultural sector.

It was also headed by DOLE Capiz represented by Labor and Employment Officer II Mary Chris Median and TUPAD Focal Person Myron Azarcon with Project Staff Juan Manuel Alisia, serving as the host and Juafe Abareles, Senior Science Research Specialist of DOST Capiz, as the resource person.

The highlight of the activity was the holding of the Basic Food Safety Seminar and Workshop whose ultimate goal is to provide an understanding of the concept and importance of food safety, knowing the different types of contaminants in food, and understanding the five keys to safer food.

Also tackled during the event were DOST VI programs and services discussed by Project Assistance (PA) II Ivy Delandao.

Moreover, it was recommended that identified participants avail of DOST technical assistance in packaging and labeling and consultancy.
