In coordination with Kalibo Federation of Civil Society Organization (KFCSO) and the Local Government Unit of Kalibo, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Western Visayas facilitated an orientation on Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading (SETUP) Program and Packaging and Labeling Services to help the members of KFCSO in accessing the different programs and projects of the department. The orientation was held at Municipal Building, Kalibo, Aklan.

The SETUP Program is a nationwide strategy to address the needs and requirements of enterprises through technology and equipment upgrading, strengthening of innovation capability, increasing productivity, and producing quality products to contribute in the attainment of sustainable and inclusive growth in the countryside.

Meanwhile, Packaging and Labeling Services is the assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the development of package design; technical consultancy for the improvement of packaging system through proper labeling and packaging; nutrition facts analysis, shelf life testing and training.

With 26 participants, DOST’s Science Research Analyst Ms. Eunice Raiza Panagsagan led the SETUP forum where programs, projects and services of the department were discussed. Also, inquiries on the requirements and benefits on Innovation Fund (iFund), Grants-In-Aid (GIA) and Scholarship Program were raised during the activity.

Moreover, the orientation on Packaging and Labeling Services was presented by DOST’s Science Research Specialist II Ms. Antonette Donato, focusing on the possible clients and coverage of the program. The lectures on Packaging 101 and Mandatory Labeling Requirements were also led by DOST’S Science Research Analysts Ms. Kay Kristyle S. Cainglet and Ms. Faye Camille D. Jimenea, respectively.

The orientation concluded with a one-on-one consultation between participants who are interested in availing the Packing and Labeling Services program and SETUP iFund. (SSalazar/JJMoleño/DOST VI-KMU)
