A total of 63 scholars of the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) are graduating at the West Visayas State University (WVSU) where 81% of whom are graduating with flying colors on March 31, 2017. Of the said number, 4 are Summa Cum Laude, 20 are Magna Cum Laude and 27 are Cum Laude.
Under the DOST-SEI Scholarship Program are the specialized grant scholarships such as Republic Act (R.A.) 7687, Merit, and R.A. 10612.
Under R.A. 7687, scholarships are awarded to poor, talented and deserving students who belong to families whose socio-economic status do not exceed the set values of certain indicators.
The DOST Merit Scholarships, on the other hand, are awarded to students with high aptitude in science and mathematics and are willing to pursue careers in science and technology.
The scholarship program under R.A. 10612 strengthens the country’s science and technology education by fast-tracking graduates in the sciences, mathematics and engineering who shall teach science and mathematics in secondary schools throughout the country.
Scholars enjoyed book allowance, stipend, tuition and school fees, transportation fee, monthly-living allowance, group insurance, one economy round trip transportation allowance, and post-graduation clothing allowance.

Equipped with S&T academic and professional abilities, the scholars are bound to render full-time service in the country upon the completion of their respective college degrees for a minimum period relevant to the length of time they enjoyed the scholarship grant.
The government is investing heavily in education and providing scholarships. DOST is trying to harness limited resources in order to strengthen our human resource and produce more scientists, engineers, researchers, and other technical people.
