In recognition of the vital role of the academe and the government to spur entrepreneurial spirit, a technology business incubator project was established dedicated to startups and fledgling enterprises.

The Small Enterprise and Entrepreneurial Development Services Technology Business Incubator (SEEDS-TBI), a multi-disciplinary project organized by the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) – College of Management and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST VI), provides a holistic assistance to aspire entrepreneurial development relevant to technological innovation.

“We want to become a premier partner in the promotion of startups and entrepreneurial development and provision of business development services in the region,” said SEEDS-TBI Project Lead John Lorenz R. Belanio.

“The SEEDS-TBI assists these startups in the early stages of their development and lighten the burdens of running a business for the entrepreneur so that they can focus on developing their technologies and finding new clients.”

With focus on the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector, the SEEDS-TBI supports those in software and IOS development, multimedia, games, web, mobile application, networking, and digital enterprises. Among of its services include physical space, shared facilities and services, business and technical support services.

To stir entrepreneurship mentality among startups, the SEEDS-TBI likewise conducted advocacy and awareness campaigns, entrepreneurship fora, boot camps and trainings.
Some government and private institutions inked partnership during the signing of the memorandum of understanding. The project partners who formed part of the SEEDS-TBI Advisory Board include the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Iloilo City Local Government Unit (LGU), Iloilo Provincial Government, Iloilo Federation for Information Technology (IFIT) and Iloilo Business Club.

At present, project incubatees comprise of Alpha2G, InfoDynamics Technologies, My Happy Fireflies, VentusDrive, Iloilo Integrated System Solution and EasyTech.
Launched in 2011, the phase one of the project was funded by the DOST VI through the Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Program. In 2015, DOST VI granted Php 409,000.00 for the institutional support of the second phase of SEEDS TBI.
