The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Capiz, under its Food Safety Consultancy Program, conducted a training on Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Awareness for MEGAF Seafood Trading to strengthen the company’s food safety management practices and enhance its capability to produce safe, high-quality seafood products.
The training was attended by 23 participants, including production supervisors and managers, office personnel, and production workers. Under the guidance of consultant Theresa C. Villasana, they were introduced to the core principles and requirements of cGMP, focusing on essential sanitation, hygiene, handling, and production procedures vital for food-processing facilities. The sessions deepened their understanding of HACCP, reinforcing how to proactively identify and evaluate microbiological, chemical, and physical hazards across the entire supply chain from raw material procurement to final product consumption. Furthermore, interactive discussions provided valuable insight into practical workplace safety, hazard prevention, and effective sanitation measures designed to optimize overall operations within the production area.
As part of the activity, DOST Capiz Senior Science Research Specialist, Mia Pielago, introduced the various science, technology, and innovation (STI) programs and services of DOST Western Visayas that can support the technological upgrading, productivity improvement, and operational development of local enterprises.
“Big help gid ini sa amon, indi lang bilang mga empleyado diri kundi para man sa amon nga self. Nagkaroon gid kami sang dugang nga self-consciousness kon ano gid ang dapat namon nga ubrahon kag kon ano ang dapat namon nga iwasan para mas maging mapuslanon nga mamamayan sa aton komunidad kag sa aton environment,” [This training is a significant help to us, not only as employees but also in our personal development. It has increased our awareness of the proper practices to follow and the things to avoid, enabling us to become more responsible members of our community and environment,”] shared Ms. Maristhel Alcazaren, one of the production workers of MEGAF Seafood Trading.
Ms. Bebskey S. Alcazaren, Quality Control Officer of MEGAF Seafood Trading, likewise emphasized the value of the activity, “Bilang isa ka Quality Control Officer, dako gid nga bulig sa akon ang training nga ini bangod nagahatag ini sang dugang nga ihibalo agod mas ma-improve pa gid ang pag-proseso sang aton mga produkto sa sulod sang production area.” [As a quality control officer, this training is highly valuable because it provided additional knowledge that can help further improve our processes within the production area.”]
