From helping sustain the local aquaculture sector during the COVID-19 pandemic to pursuing export-ready operations, MEGAF Seafood Trading continues to advance through science and technology.
Established in 2020, the Roxas City-based enterprise is owned by Mr. Matthew Jalem R. Panaguiton and managed by his father, Mr. Graciano B. Panaguiton, whose expertise in aquaculture helped shape the firm’s venture into value-added seafood processing. Today, the firm specializes in premium seafood products, particularly tiger prawn and deboned bangus, while continuously strengthening its production systems and food safety practices.

Following the completion of its first SETUP (Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program) project, MEGAF Seafood Trading is set to undertake another phase of technology upgrading under the DOST SETUP 4.0 iFund. As the firm pursues expansion into high-value domestic and export markets, further investments in production infrastructure and food safety systems have become necessary to support its long-term growth. The project entitled “System and Product Quality Improvement of MEGAF Seafood Trading” was approved with the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) which will support the establishment of a temperature-controlled cold storage facility, the adoption of a solar photovoltaic-powered electrical system, and the implementation of food safety consultancy toward Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) compliance.

The project marks another important step in MEGAF Seafood Trading’s continuing efforts to modernize its operations and expand its market opportunities. Mr. Matthew Jalem R. Panaguiton, the owner, shared: “We would like to thank the DOST SETUP iFund project for assisting our company in developing our operations, which helped us in minimizing our costs, the ease in applying went smooth as we experience no delays. We can say that we fully trust the assistance provided to us Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as it gives us the confidence we need to look forward to the growth of our company.”
The project represents another important milestone in MEGAF Seafood Trading’s long-term vision of developing an export-ready seafood processing enterprise. Through continued investment in science and technology, the firm aims to create greater value from local fisheries resources while generating more opportunities for the aquaculture sector in Capiz.
