The Department of Science and Technology Aklan (DOST Aklan), through the DOST Western Visayas’ AmligSiyensya Program, provides food packs and science-based interventions to 25 family beneficiaries in Barangay Bel-is, Buruanga, Aklan, in response to the ongoing challenges brought about by the fuel crisis and its impact on the community.
The food packs include Nutri Cocokies and Rice-Mongo Instant Blend developed by the DOST-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) and Ready-to-Eat Chicken Arroz Caldo developed by the DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI), along with other necessities intended to support affected households. Among the beneficiaries were two (2) senior citizens and two (2) Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries, receiving food bags containing items that are essential in times of emergency situations, including 10 kilograms of rice, packs of chocolate drink, and canned sardines.
Barangay Bel-is is also one of the beneficiary communities of the ongoing Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) project of DOST Aklan.
AmligSiyensya is a community outreach program established by the DOST Western Visayas. The program was coined by joining two Hiligaynon words, ‘Amlig’ (which means care or attention emphasizes the agency’s intention to take care of communities and sectors in need) and ‘Siyensya’ (Hiligaynon term for science). The outreach program highlights the important role of science and technology (S&T) in providing relevant and effective solutions to problems of society.
