
Mar Lean Meat Products, a homegrown enterprise built on family tradition, is officially transitioning into a tech-driven operation through the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP). Under the SETUP 4.0 iFund Project, the firm’s initiative, titled “Process, Product Quality, and System Improvement of Mar Lean Meat Products,” was recently approved with an investment of PhP 255,000.00.
This strategic partnership aims to bridge gaps between traditional manual processing and modern food safety standards using science and technology-based interventions designed to improve its overall system, from handling raw materials to final product packaging.
One of the key upgrades includes the use of a temperature-controlled chiller, which will allow the firm to properly thaw raw materials while reducing the risk of microbial growth. This improvement strengthens food safety practices at the earliest stage of processing. Complementing this is the acquisition of an industry-grade meat slicer, which is expected to enhance both the speed and consistency of slicing, while also providing a safer working environment for personnel.
Further improvements are being implemented in the packaging and distribution phase to ensure long-term viability in the market. With the introduction of an industry-grade vacuum sealer and the use of food-grade packaging materials, Mar Lean Meat Products can now guarantee sealing integrity and protect its products from degradation during storage and transport. These upgrades are also expected to make packing and labeling more efficient, while ensuring full compliance with Philippine food labeling standards.
