The Department of Science and Technology Aklan (DOST Aklan) spearheaded a technical training intervention for the province’s food processing service sectors, focusing on the critical intersection of food safety compliance and competitive packaging.
The orientation aimed to capacitate local businesses by enhancing their understanding of proper production practices, product quality, and statutory and regulatory requirements through DOST’s technical expertise and guidance. It covered discussions on food safety awareness and compliance, a practical guide to packaging and label development, and the laboratory services offered by DOST to support product development and quality assurance.
Notably, a significant number of participants were women-led enterprises, reflecting the growing presence of women in entrepreneurship and highlighting their role in economic development.
One of the participants, Ms. Ericka Tabiolo, co-owner of Daika’s Lip Balm, a firm that produces all-natural lip balm, emphasized the strengths of women in business. “I have observed that women are leaders. They lead with initiative. Women are good at handling and disseminating the roles of each worker or employee in an enterprise. Women have the capacity to strengthen their minds in everything they do,” she reflected.
