Reaffirming its commitment to catalyze regional growth, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Capiz Innovation Hub (iHub) strengthens its role as the province’s gateway for transformative ideas, bridging the gap between scientific research and community-based innovation.
Recently, DOST Capiz Science Research Specialist I Engr. Mae Avek Gregorios, held an initial meeting with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Makawiwili President Eliza Mae Capa and Executive Vice President Jenny Villamor-Altavas at DOST Capiz Innovation Hub (iHub) to explore collaborative projects on Gender and Development (GAD)-related initiatives.
JCI Makawiwili is an all-female organization under JCI Philippines based in Roxas City, dedicated to empowering women and young leaders through community service, skills development, and sustainable projects, while promoting professional growth and lasting positive change. This collaboration will be formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), paving the way for activities that will directly benefit and empower local communities to integrate gender-responsive science and technology (S&T) interventions.
On the same day, Ms. Juafe M. Abareles, DOST Capiz Provincial Science and Technology Director (PSTD), welcomed an interview from BS Tourism students of University of the Philippines Diliman as part of their study, “From the Community, For the Community: Assessing Community-Based Tourism’s Contribution to Inclusive Tourism Development in Roxas City.” By hosting this interview at the DOST Capiz iHub, DOST Capiz encouraged active participation from students and local stakeholders, providing valuable insights to support inclusive tourism growth in the city.
These activities solidify the iHub’s commitment to driving progress, anchored on its core pillars to inspire, interact, ideate, and initiate.Through these, DOST Capiz continues to strengthen collaboration with local organizations and academic institutions in support of community-driven development.
