The Roxas City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) with the Department of Science and Technology-Western Visayas (DOST Western Visayas) sharpens emergency response capabilities through a hands-on orientation of DOST’s Project SIGNAL or the Strategic Incident Georeferencing for Nationwide Alertness.

The activity, led by DOST Capiz, aims to further sharpen the city’s emergency capabilities, ensuring that local emergency responders from the Roxas City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) are not just equipped with hardware, but are masters of the data-driven tools that save lives during critical hours.

Project SIGNAL is a DOST-developed decision-support system that utilizes real-time, geotagged incident reporting to enable faster, more coordinated, and data-driven emergency response across Western Visayas. In Roxas City, Capiz, Project SIGNAL is already an established component of the city’s disaster response framework on November 2022.

The session, spearheaded by DOST Capiz Assistant Provincial Director Ryan Vilmor J. Dumpit, equipped the entire Roxas City DRRMO team with the skills to fully use the system, boosting their ability to respond faster, coordinate better, and manage emergencies more effectively.

Through this initiative, DOST Western Visayas reinforces its commitment to empowering Local Government Units (LGUs) with high-accuracy data and strengthened inter-agency reporting tools. Project SIGNAL helps translate digital innovation into practical, on-the-ground decision-making, enabling faster and more efficient emergency interventions. This collaboration reflects DOST’s mission of “Agham na Ramdam” ensuring that science and technology deliver tangible benefits and contribute to safer, more prepared communities for all.
