Eight (8) micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Capiz received their market-ready label designs through the label design development assistance offered by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Western Visayas.

The turnover of the printed label designs and design kits was led by DOST Capiz Provincial Director Juafe M. Abareles, Assistant Provincial Director Ryan Vilmor J. Dumpit, and Senior Science Research Specialist Mia C. Pielago. The eight (8) Capiz MSME beneficiaries were Mar Lean Meat Products, Monray Seafood Processing, 6C Food Products, Cyle’s Food Products, Moving Arrows Food House, Kape Ka Tamulalod, Edelicious Snack Foods, and Lonoy Agrarian Reform Cooperative.

Mar Lean Meat Products owner, Ms. Genny Brillanted, expressed her gratitude for the assistance from DOST. She says, “We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to the DOST for the guidance, support, and assistance extended to our business. Thank you for continuously supporting micro businesses and helping us move toward growth and innovation,” Ms. Brillantes also thanked the DOST-accredited consultant on label design development, Ms. Trizzia Mae Soquina.

Recognizing that the label is the primary touchpoint for consumers, DOST Western Visayas provides technical and creative assistance to transform basic packaging into market-assets through its Label Design Development Consultancy. The program aims to enhance the marketability, compliance, and overall presentation of MSMEs’ products by providing technical guidance to ensure labels meet industry standards and showcase each product’s unique qualities.

Senior SRS Mia C. Pielago conducted a consultation with Cyle’s Food Products on their current label design to ensure compliance with DOH-FDA Administrative Order No. 2014-0030 guidelines.

Through this consultancy program, DOST personnel work closely with MSMEs through one-on-one consultations to refine product concepts and ensure regulatory readiness. During the consultation, specific gaps and non-compliance with DOH–FDA Administrative Order No. 2014-0030 on the labeling of prepackaged food products were identified, and corresponding recommendations were provided. Based on the assessment, creative graphic designers are then deployed to assist the firms in developing or improving product labels and logos to ensure compliance while elevating brand appeal and shelf presence.
