Street food vendors in Roxas City are getting a high tech-upgrade. On January 15-16, 2026, 60 local street food vendors participated in a two-day registration activity for the Roxas SAFE App (Sanitation Accreditation for Food Establishment).
This initiative, powered by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Roxas City and the Department of Science and Technology Western Visayas (DOST Western Visayas) under its Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Program, highlights the crucial role of science, technology and innovation in improving food safety and advancing public health initiatives across Roxas City.
Implemented in partnership with DOST Capiz, the activity aimed to integrate trained street food vendors into the mobile sanitation monitoring platform. The Roxas SAFE App is a mobile-based sanitation monitoring system developed to assist in ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation standards through systematic inspection and monitoring. Participating vendors were assisted in registering their accounts and were oriented on the proper use of the application.

The registration drive, led by the Roxas City Planning and Development Office in coordination with the Roxas Sanitation Office, targeted 60 local street food vendors who had previously completed current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) training.
The session included an introduction to DOST programs and services by DOST Capiz, followed by an orientation on food cart operation and maintenance conducted by LGU Roxas City. Pre-registration of vendors on the Roxas SAFE App was completed, with teams assisting vendors in navigating the app and completing the registration process. Personal protective equipment (PPE) was also distributed to each vendor to ensure safe food handling practices and compliance with sanitation standards.
โAng purpose sang app is ma-proteksiyonan atun consumers as well as our vendors,โ [The purpose of the app is to protect both our consumers and our vendors.] said EnP. Arnold B. Alarcon, Jr., Project Leader of GIA LGU Roxas City, emphasizing the dual benefit of safeguarding both consumers and vendors through the mobile sanitation-monitoring platform.
