Five (5) participating Irrigator’s Associations (IA) in Capiz enhanced its product compliance and strengthen the market readiness through a Packaging 101 and Mandatory Labeling Requirements training conducted by the Department of Science and Technology Capiz Provincial Science and Technology Office (DOST -Capiz PSTO), in collaboration with the National Irrigation and Administration (NIA) Aklan-Capiz Irrigation Management Office.
Ms. Mia C. Pielago, DOST Capiz Senior Science Research Specialist, served as the resource speaker, highlighting the critical role of packaging in protecting products and influencing consumer perception. The session covered packaging classifications, materials, and structures, as well as common deteriorative factors affecting food products. Practical insights were provided on various packaging materials such as glass, paper, metals, and plastics guiding IAs in assessing the suitability and compatibility of their current packaging solutions.

During the discussion, Ms. Pielago used sample products brought by local IAs as visual references and provided specific recommendations to improve packaging and labeling. Emphasis was placed on proper labeling formats and compliance with Administrative Order 2014-0030: Revised Rules and Regulations Governing the Labeling of Prepackaged Food Products.
This training demonstrated the collaborative efforts of DOST and NIA to support Irrigators’ Associations, equipping them with proper labeling and packaging knowledge to strengthen their product competitiveness and access broader market opportunities. (RAPizon/DOST Capiz)
