Ms. Ruby Ann F. Bello was an aspiring entrepreneur in Roxas City before she founded Bigcity Designs & Printing in 2014.  From thereon, her business continued to provide printing services and garment products in the province of Capiz.

Ms. Bello began her firm as a photocopying service for state colleges and local government units (LGUs) in Roxas City.  They then expanded to printing and fabrication services of garments, tarpaulin and signages.

In 2018, the firm availed of the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program-Innovation-Enabling Fund (SETUP-iFund) amounting to Php 2M to improve the quality of their products and services.

With the funding support, the firm purchased a LED UV Printer with accessories and a High-Speed Computerized Embroidery Machine that greatly aided the company in increasing sales and productivity, improving product quality, and developing new products.

Bigcity Designs & Prints was approved for a second round of funding under the SETUP 4.0- iFund project on September 16, 2022, with the project, “Product, Process, System Improvement, and Product Development of Bigcity Designs & Prints”.

By January 2023, the firm had completed the procurement of the equipment requested under the project.  It will then be necessary to develop a new product line of sublimation printed items through the procurement of 1 unit Dye Sublimation Inkjet Printer, ensure the quality of garments for manufacturing of respective product lines, mechanize and decrease the time for cutting of fabric through new technology brought about by the inclusion of a sewing system into the manufacturing process.  With the acquisition of the High-Speed Computerized Embroidery Machine, embroidery capacity increased from 2 to 4 heads with 12 needles.

Overall, the SETUP 4.0-iFund improved the products, processes, and system of Bigcity Designs & Prints.  They have also developed a new product line through the adoption of S&T  or science and technology-related interventions and were able to realize the firm’s mission to deliver high quality, affordable and fast personalized, and customized products using upgraded state-of-the-art machinery with guaranteed excellent customer service and cater all the printing demands of not just Capizeños but the whole region of Western Visayas. (DOST VI-Capiz PSTO and KMU)
